Nobody would argue that Chinese culture is both extensive and profound. One thing that has always fascinated me about it is the fact that had it not been for some political decisions made hundreds of years ago, Chinese culture might very well have been dominant in the world in the 20th century and this one. In the early 1400's, China had a fleet of sailing ships that dwarfed anything the Europeans had and was more technologically advanced. There were two factions in the government, though, and the isolationist faction won out, resulting in China withdrawing from the rest of the world, ending in exploitation by the Western powers in the 1800's. Just imagine if China had gone outward at that time - they very probably would have visited the west coast of the American continents ahead of the Europeans. History would certainly have been quite different.

fdmaxey you are a bit mithologic. not bad. when a chinese ask about this he/she expects chinese culture to be praised and also have a bit of fear they would be told that is backwards. dear jeanie, don't ask about culture in general cause this word in fact means nothing clear. chinese culture has produced wonderful poets, tao philosophy. mao tse tung, deng xiao ping, female infanticide, pagoda architecture, etc. do you see how this concept mixes a lot of issues with confronted anthropologic, political or artistic sensations?

I think Chinese culture is very interesting and would like to visit the country sometime and explore a few remnants of ancient heritage. One of my must visit spots in China is, of course, the Great Wall of China, the only man made structure which can be viewed from space. I am also willing to explore one much heard about White Pyramid...can you give some info on the same?? Thanks.
