What means "tome" in English?
Thanx, but I have been looking in the dictionary and I can not match with the word. I am sure it's "slang".Thanx a lot to all of yours!! :O)

It is not slang..It means a large volume of literature, usually scholarly material.

No it is not a slang term, in fact 'tome' is an old fashioned word and rarely used nowadays. ACohen's answer is correct. The word 'tome' is a noun and is derived from the Latin word tomus, from Greek tomos, meaning a cutting or a section.

Tome means in general a book ,a written composition that has been published ,a scholarly book and in particular it could mean:
- trade book 'trade edition'
- pop-up books ,which is a book (usually for children) that contains one or more pages such that a three-dimensional structure rises up when a page is opened.
- booklet, brochure , folder
- appointment book or calendar
- catalog
- phrase book -- (a book containing common expressions in a foreign language along with their translations), that is when you are learning a foreign language you keep a tome.
- playbook containing the script of dramatic plays.
- song book containing a collection of songs
- story book containing a collection of stories usually for children.
- reference book ,a book of facts containing authoritative facts.
Those are some among other ways of using the word 'tome'.
