Vou embora - means "I'm leaving/going now" or "I'm on my way", though in the casual Brazilian jeito, it could actually be a few minutes before they get on their way.
Embora by itself can mean, "Let'a go!", "Come on" or even "Hurry up!"

As an adverb: ~ away
Ir embora: to go away
Mandar embora: to send away
Vai-te embora!: go away!
Tenho de ir-me embora: I must be off, I must be going
As a conjunction: although; though
embora fosse tarde, decidimos partir: although it was late, we decided to leave
As na interjection:
Embora!: Let's go! Off we go! Be off!

A palavra "embora" significa "Although".
Ex: Although I like Brazil, it is very violent = Embora eu goste do Brasil, ele está muito violento!
A palavra embora + verbo ir (to go) = Leave
Ir = go to anywere. Just go!
"Ir embora" = leave where you are. It means "go away"
Exemplos:
Vá embora! = Go away! Get out of here!
Vou embora da festa! = I'm leaving the party!
Fui embora da festa = I left the party
