How do you pronounce in Persian نسبتی Hello, I need help with the phrase با او چه نسبتی دارید ؟ (how are you related to her/him?) 1. In the word نسبتی from the phrase above, where do you place stress, is it /nes-BA-tee/ or /nes-ba-TEE/? 2. On a related note, the word "relation" (being related to a person) is نسبت or نسبتی ? Thank you very much

1. In Persian we never put stress on any syllable. Actually when Iranians learn English they even couldn't understand what stress means and they have a hard time realizing the importance of it in English. We simply never put stress in any parts of a word and pronounce the whole word with same tone. UPDATE: seems like Saeede is right and I just learned something about my native language. Perhaps I even put those stresses unknowingly 🤔 2. The word is نسبت and ی has a grammatical rule in there. It denotes that نسبت is unkown. It is similar to the indefinite noun in English grammar (e.g. a relation rather than the relation). That was your answer but hoping that I don't make you confused I want to explain the role of ی further (please ignore this part if you find it confusing) In Persian nouns could be either Known or Unknown. Known means that your audience know what are you referring to. Unknown means that it is not a specif thing you're referring to. Example for known (Definite) مرد آمد The man came Example for Unknown (indefinite) مردی آمد A man came There is more to it. ی doesn't always make it unknown noun, so try to learn by examples rather than following grammar rules strictly.

Hi Jacob ;) 1. The stress is on second part, i.e. 'nesBAti' 2. Relation means 'nesbat', and 'ee' is added after 'che'... For example: Che soalee daari? or Che ghazayee doost daari, Che jaahaayee ro didi? etc. Nesbat is sometimes translated as 'ertebaat' or 'raabete' too..

1- nes-BA-tee 2- نسبت is relation, but the sentence above is informal. If you want to say it in the formal way, it would be like this: نسبتِ شما با او چیست؟
