I just wished...
''I just wish you would have told me.'' This is a line that I heard while watching a movie the other day, and I have been reflecting upon the matter ever since: Isn't the phrase ''I just wish you had told me'' the correct way to say it? Why did the character used the formula ''would have told'' instead?
Thank you very much.

Luiz, you are right that “I just wished you had told me” would be correct, and that “I just wished you would have told me” is not quite right. But in real life, you will hear both, and there is no intended difference in meaning.

The correct way to say this is "I just wish you would have told me" because it didn't happen. The "would" is necessary because the action has not been completed.
However, if you wanted to say "I just wish you hadn't told me" you wouldn't use the "would" because the action has been completed.
I hope the helps and feel free to contact me for clarification!
