Another related expression is to "go the extra mile." Similar to "above and beyond" it means to do something extra to help out.

“To above and beyond”and “You can always do it if you got the correct answer” Is this from something American? "above and beyond” means to surpasss "You can always do it if you have the correct answer. Seems self-explanatory. Americans seem to sometimes use "got" for "have".

I accidentally put my answer in the "comment" section. Here it is again: The expression "to go above and beyond" means to work extra hard, to help out or work harder. (The verb "go" is necessary in the expression). A related expression: when someone does an extra good job, you can say, "he went above and beyond the call of duty."

Steve's answers are good. He has gone above and beyond the requirement by also providing another similar expression. "to above and beyond" is strange with the "to" there. From Steve's answer; "to go above and beyond" is to work extra, extra hard, or extra long, or in some way exceeed a requirement. Sure, we all work hard here, but Steve, he goes above and beyond. Steve exceeds something, others, or the requirement, or the expectation. Above and beyond the call of duty - another expression . Answering the question is ok and good, but giving a clear explanation is going above and beyond. . “you can always do it if you have the correct answer” - This is not one I am familiar with. It sort of makes sense. "do it" and "have the right answer" both sound positive, so we can imagine that they are connected in some way. I have no knowledge of this being a standard way of saying anything commonly used. Sorry. New Zealand (close to British) English perspective) If we imaging some thing that requires a question being answered. A quiz that you must volunteer yourself to answer. You can always do it if you have the right answer? Not something with any general meaning, that I know of. :( Hope it helps a bit.

I'm not sure about the second sentence. What is the context? Where did you see/hear this?
