Yes, with the given example 'Apa' means the same as 'Apakah'.
'Apakah' is used more on the text book or in formal situation while 'Apa' is used in everyday conversation or informal situation.
I hope it helps!

Hello Sony,
Firstly thank you for your question. It is a very good question. The usage between "apa" and "apakah" in Bahasa Indonesia is often overlapping. But in terms of context, "apakah" is used more in formal context or situation, and it is used in text book and formal lesson (for example in exam materials). Meanwhile "apa" is used widely among Indonesians to ask a question (generally) and it is used a lot in daily life.

We use "apa" for asking common question. For example,
Apa ini? (What is this?)
Apa yang kamu makan untuk makan malam? (What do you eat for dinner?)
And we use "apakah" for ensure. For example,
Apakah kamu seorang insinyur? (Are you an engineer?)
Apakah Pak Handi sedang sakit? (Are Mr. Handi is sick?)
So the conclussion is, "apa" is same like "what" and "apakah" is same like "are" (in question)
