Christian is a broad term for those who believe and follow the teachings of Jesus. Catholicism is a sect of Christianity. More simply, they are a type of christian who are suppose to have, or follow, a similar interpretation of the teachings of Jesus. So basically, not all Christians are Catholic, but all Catholics are Christians.

Tofu is right... being a Catholic is being a Christian. Christianity in essence, is a religion with different sects including Catholicism.... I am a Christian, but not a Catholic. We are being taught of Jesus Christ's teachings, hence we are called Christians. :)
