Didn't get what you were trying to ask. The other 55. As for the other 55, in spite of very very few languages like Mongolian and Tibetan which are still spoken by an account of people, very very very few languages are still spoken or even existent (in fact some of them already disappeared), the percentage of the other 55 nationalities' total population is appr. 9.44% (the lastest), among which the quantity of the people who can really speak the minority languages is actually a drop of the bucket. Majority of them has no difference with Han Chinese, they live with HC, speak the languages that are spoken by people around themselves. Moreover, with the addition of the minority preferential policy, you know... and a bady is born as minority only if its mother or father is. On the contrary, the quantity of the dialects which derive from the Han Chinese (I'd say not 'derive', but which formed HC, which HC per se consists of) is breathtakingly horrible. A saying is that 三里不同音,十里不同风(调)or some similar editions, meaning people who live just few miles away from each other speak way differently. To most northern Chinese, it's a Herculean challenge to understand and speak any southern dialect well.
