Yes, to burn bridges means to leave yourself no way back, or to leave yourself no opportunity to repair damage. It also means to damage a relationship before it can properly start. For example, you may say to someone that you dont like them right now and you'd rather not speak to them for a few days. If you hurl abuse at them and tell them you never want to see them again- THIS is burning your bridges, because there is no way back.
