What is the difference between 'bug' and 'beetle' ?

Speaking informally, a "bug" is any insect, spider or anything that looks like them. In scientific parlance a "bug" is an insect of the order hemiptra. A "beetle" is an insect of the order coleoptera. So, a "bug" or a "beetle" is a slang term for this.
