You can't figure it out. You have to look in the dictionary.

Hi Dianna, There is a free online talking dictionary of English pronunciation. Just click over the pink words to hear them spoken at www.howjsay.com/index.php?word. There are many rules for pronouncing vowels and this site explains them very clearly http://english.glendale.cc.ca.us/phonics.rules.html Here are the podcasts you can listen to http://www.englishpronunciationpod.com/feed.xml

Are you a phonetist? You mean "phonics" right? I remembered your former question I answered; see, Eliot's answer was what I was talking about; the rules; you gotta get the "intuition" by mastering the language (phonetics) little by little. Interesting, 3 or even more stresses? To me the first challenge is to find which one is (the first) stress.
