’će’ is a short form of the present tense of the verb ’hteti’ (to want) in the 3rd person, singular and plural.
It acts as an auxiliary verb and we use it to form the future tense.
Here’s the present tense short forms of ’hteti’:
Sg. 1. ja ću (I will)
2. ti ćeš (you will)
3. on/ona/ono će (he/she/it will)
Pl. 1. mi ćemo (we will)
2. vi ćete (you will)
3. oni će (they will)
The future tense is formed from the short form of the verb ’hteti’ + the main verb in its infinitive form.
Example:
Sg. 1. ja ću pjevati (I will sing)
2. ti ćeš pjevati (you will sing)
3. on/ona/ono će pjevati (he/she/it will sing)
Pl. 1. mi ćemo pjevati (we will sing)
2. vi ćete pjevati (you will sing)
3. oni će pjevati (they will sing)
Sg. 1. ja ću reći (I will tell)
2. ti ćeš reći (you will tell)
3. on/ona/ono će reći (he/she/it will tell)
Pl. 1. mi ćemo reći (we will tell)
2. vi ćete reći (you will tell)
3. oni će reći (they will tell)
If the subject of the sentence is omitted ’ću/ćeš/će’etc comes after the main verb.
In this case, if an infinitive ends in ’–ti’, it is spelled without the final ’i’.
Here are the examples for the verbs ’pjevati’ (to sing) and ’reći’ (to tell):
Sg. 1. pjevat ću (I will sing)
2. pjevat ćeš (you will sing)
3. pjevat će (he/she/it will sing)
Pl. 1. pjevat ćemo (we will sing)
2. pjevat ćete (you will sing)
3. pjevat će (they will sing)
Sg. 1. reći ću (I will tell)
2. reći ćeš (you will tell)
3. reći će (he/she/it will tell)
Pl. 1. reći ćemo (we will tell)
2. reći ćete (you will tell)
3. reći će (they will tell)
