Hi Everyone . Something I want to speak about this morning .
I noticed as a native English speaker . I can translate absolutely anything FROM SPANISH TO ENGLISH with no problem at all and if you say it to any person that speak English , you will be WELL UNDERSTOOD . But , when I work with certain native Spanish Speakers it’s always difficult for them to translate from ENGLISH TO SPANISH when I want to know certain words or phrases . Then , at times I can have someone who is Mexican translate a sentence for me . I’ll practice it until I can say it without looking at my sheet and as soon as I say the phrase around my Dominican or Puerto Rican friends , I get reactions like .... “ Eww Who Taught You That “ or “ Don’t Speak Like That . We Don’t Speak Like That in Spanish Bro “ Lol .... is Spanish really that diverse ? Sorry guys , I’m 7 months in on my journey and I’m trying to get over the gap that I’m in .

I honestly find the same thing often when I am learning Hebrew. One person tells me one thing and another person something different. I know it can be frustrating.

I guess if the Mexicans who translate it for you do it literally and not considering the context etc. it sounds weird. There is definitely a difference between the two languages. Especially - typical expressions or the construction of the sentences etc.

Real Spanish is what people talk in everyday life. Street talk is the real thing. Sadly, what you guys learn in the classroom is just excess grammar. Go out and talk to Mexicans, Cubans, or whoever is around you. Buena suerte, chico.

I am Mexican and I can tell you that we have manny different expression only in Mexico, but probably they taught you some Mexican slang. You can ask them to teach you a neutral Spanish. Because even if we have different Spanish in different countries we can understand everythig when we speak more neutral Spanish.
