Thermodynamics is the science of energy. It comes from Greek words thermo (heat) and dynamis (power).
In thermodynamics there are four rules:
1) The zeroth thermodynamic law says that if two objects have a heat balance with a third object, the two objects also have a heat balance.
2) The first thermodynamic law says that energy does not disappear, but it can change from one state to another.
3) The second thermodynamic law says that energy has quality and quantity. For example, the temperature of a cup of hot water will decrease over time, not increase.
4) The third thermodynamic law states that if the temperature of a system approaches absolute zero, the entropy also approaches a constant (entropy being a measure of the irregularity of a system).
