I am non native and it is very confusing for me

I'm posing this question because I'm reading a Spanish translation of an English book with this phrase in it, and the translation has the meaning exactly backward. I'm curious if this is a confusing sentence for non-native speakers.

In fact, that is what the professional English to Spanish translator must have thought. However, if we meant it that way, we would say something like, "I caution you against ignoring the regular order of training." In the original sentence quoted above, the speaker is cautioning "you" that you must ignore the regular order (or else there may be bad consequences). The original context is a book called Dune. The speaker is a woman who teaches at a school, talking to a woman she taught at her school. She sees that the woman has been giving the same teachings/trainings to her son. The teacher warns the woman that she must ignore the regular order of the trainings in favor of moving up one of the topics sooner.
