Actually,it is really different from western culture.
In short, I summarize their steps with
1 Getting opportunity for knowing other sex (Normally people automatically get this opportunity in new school, new company or some community. People who can't have them automatically, it will be hard to get such aopportunity)
2 Talking to the people who they are interested and exchange contacts (Recentlly, Line, Facebook,Email address or Number are used as contacs)
3 Chatting online and getting know each other in personal place (Japanese are shy so they try to know each other on the internet.)
4 Men(mostoly) will invite women to hang out or dinner.(If one side was refused request from the other side,that means their love story rarely will start)
5 After three or five times dating or hanging out, men (mostly) will say women ' Can you be my girl friend" in nice place. (Good restaurant or night view)
6 they will be couple!!
