Welcome! If you like being a part of an English-learning team, in which we both take responsibility for your learning, then I'm the teacher for you! I have taught ESL for many years -here on italki and abroad in Malta. I also teach language arts in the local public school system of Albuquerque, New Mexico (the home of BREAKING BAD). I love teaching conversational and writing skills.
Some other things we may have in common:
1. I'm passionate about ancient Egypt. I even teach a class on italki about Egypt. Interested? Please let me know!
2. I also have two daughters and, now, two grandsons. One family lives in Boston; the other in San Francisco. And I miss them.Ich als Lehrkraft
If you're a student who likes to interact with your tutor, then we'll get along great. I like when students take charge of the lesson and view us as a team. First, I like to hear a student's background, and will share mine if you're interested. I tell my students NOT to apologize for making mistakes, especially not to a teacher. I've made mistakes while teaching, and I just accept it and use it as a lesson that all of us make mistakes--even native speakers.
I've got a good sense of humor (well, I've been told that, at least) and really like when students have fun while learning English. Students have told me that I'm patient and supportive, and I plan to live up to these expectations.Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I have a CELTA certification issued by Cambridge U (England). That's the highest "degree" you can have to teach ESL. I usually work with students who are more more advanced speakers - not beginners. PLEASE ASK ME QUESTIONS (!) during a lesson, especially if we're having a conversation course. Once you sign up for a course, we can work on anything you want or the actual subject you signed up for.
I also do editing for essays and resumes (lots of success), but I charge for the amount of work needed.
I also have private students and teach at the local schools here.
Homework? Generally I assign students to read an article or some other real material instead of memorizing lists of things.Mein Unterrichtsmaterial

The best teacher! I am so lucky to find that I found Ilene! She did an amazing job with my motivation letter and study plan for the universities I apply to, even though I didn’t give her much time. I highly recommend Ilene to everyone who needs help with their writing as she is patient and has awesome editing skills.
