Hello! I’m Ryan Higgins, and I’m so glad you decided to check out my profile!
For the past 18 years, I’ve been lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world—Guilin, China. I moved here in 2007 without knowing any Chinese, but fast forward to today, and I have a wonderful family, a job I’m truly passionate about, and yes, I can speak Chinese.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, reading, hanging out with my daughter, and playing with our cat, Coco (she sometimes makes a cameo in our lessons!).

My passion for teaching stems from a love of language and culture, inspired by my high school friendships with exchange students. I was fascinated by their cultures and languages and tried, though largely unsuccessfully, to learn them all.
My methods are influenced by the groundbreaking work of Mike Long in Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and backed by the latest research in Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Every time I have a class with Ryan, time seems to fly by. He is very patient and often encourages me, which makes me more and more relaxed and enjoy the English class.

The first time I attended Ryan's class, I was infected by his enthusiasm. He was very patient and good at guiding me to express some content. He would also provide reasonable plans based on my own situation. I'm looking forward to the next class.

I really enjoy Ryan's English class. To make sure I can understand him, he speaks very slowly and uses very simple words. Although I've only had one class, I feel less scared to speak English than I was at the beginning. I'm looking forward to every class that follows.

I‘m really exited during the lesson! The lesson was well-structured and with a lot of useful information. In addition, I can communicate with my teacher about language acquisition and linguistics which we both interested in! This is a perfect trial lesson. I’m looking forward to next meeting!
