I'm taking a short break as of June 2022, but will be back in a couple of months! My name is Michael and I'm from Scotland. When I was a child, I thought I was incapable of learning a language. I had spent 6 years studying French at school but could barely manage a simple greeting. It wasn't until I took responsibility for my learning that things fell into place. Learning Japanese opened many doors for me. In 2016, I moved to Japan where I taught English for 4 years. Looking back at the places I've been and the people I've met, it amazes me how much learning a language enriched my life. Now, I want to help you achieve your language goals. If I can do it, so can you!

Ich als Lehrkraft

With a background in private and classroom tuition, I have practical experience in a variety of teaching environments. I taught school children aged two to fifteen in Japan for almost five years (a trial by fire!) and always strived to create fun, engaging lessons that were relevant to the students. I find grammar-heavy teaching methods ineffective - there is more to language learning than memorising grammar rules! I try to make my lessons as fun as possible. Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil

While I focus on providing conversation practice, I understand that an hour is a long time to talk (for me too!), especially if you are new to the language. As such, I split my lessons into two parts. The first part is a casual conversation. Tell me about your week! This will be followed by an exercise in the form of a worksheet. I have various exercises in PDF format for practising English grammar points. I will send these to you via Skype during the lesson. For advanced students, we can read news articles and real media written for native speakers. Homework can be assigned upon request in the form of written exercises that I will provide feedback on.
