Hello everyone, my name is Quintin and I'm from South Africa. My wife and I currently live in Cape Town. My native languages are Afrikaans and English and I also speak French. I'm an Industrial Engineer by profession, hold a PhD in Engineering and have worked in different industries. I've also travelled to numerous countries such as France, Spain, the USA, Peru, and China. I enjoy learning about new cultures and food, cooking, making music, learning languages, reading and drinking good coffee.
My schedule changes week by week, so if I'm not available when you'd like to have a lesson, send me a message and I can try to make a plan.
Ich als Lehrkraft
I've worked with many engineering students, taught several students on iTalki, and I enjoy seeing people grow and develop over time. It will give me great pleasure to see you develop your linguistic skills. I will always motivate you to try and then we will celebrate all your successes, no matter how small. My goal is to empower you to believe in yourself and make progress.
I'm very patient and speak a good level of French, so I can also help French students who are still beginners in English. We will, however, focus on informal conversation and not have grammar lessons that I teach. I can explain rules to the best of my abilities, but my goal will be to get you talking with confidence.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
We can have informal conversations about topics that interest you or we can chat about a song, book, or article I have read. This will help you to develop the ability to speak about various topics spontaneously. You will talk most of the time and I will correct you without interrupting too much and add these corrections to a Google Doc that we share. I'll also share tips and tricks from my own language learning.
We can organise various types of sessions, such as:
- questions and answers about themes / topics of interest
- mock interviews
- general conversation about life and hobbies
- pronunciation
- mock social situations
- prompts from which we tell stories
