Hey! I’m Monika, a 23-year-old graduate who has always had a bit of an obsession with languages and travelling the world. I’m native in English and Polish, having grown up in Scotland speaking Polish daily with my family and interpreting from a young age. I’m a foodie, animal lover, and curious mind who loves to explore and learn. After achieving C1 in Spanish, I’m still learning and have recently started studying Japanese, a language and culture I’m eager to understand more deeply. I’m passionate about all things language learning and love sharing my native languages as much as I enjoy learning new ones. Every day’s a chance to learn something new!

I’ve been a teacher from a pretty young age. I taught younger children in high school as a language ambassador teaching students (aged 12-14) the basics of Spanish. More recently in September 2024 I travelled to Turkey to teach a variety of ages (14-65+) English in Istanbul’s English Spoken Café, where students had topics each day that they had to prepare to discuss during their 2-hour daily lesson. I led classes from beginner to advanced. In terms of Polish teaching, I am forever teaching my boyfriend of 5 years new Polish words and phrases, and I must say he is doing pretty great! Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I like to tailor my lessons to the preferences and goals of my students. Generally, I like to keep it fun, informal, and grammatically-light to avoid overwhelming the students and to keep the lesson engaging but useful. Instead, I choose a topic that interests my students and discuss it in detail, like a natural conversation. The most important thing for me is understanding my students’ goals. If they want to travel to Poland and learn some “survival phrases,” then we can absolutely cover that. With me, you won’t learn any random words or phrases like “I have two apples” or “The girl is holding some bread.” I promise—it won’t be anything like Duolingo!
