Hi! I’m Veera — a Finnish language professional with a master’s degree in translation and years of teaching experience. I’ve got to know the ups and downs of language learning (English, Norwegian, Japanese, Russian — ask me for tips!).
I love exploring cultures — especially Japan’s — and reading a good book or playing games. My passion is also helping students speak Finnish confidently. As a trained translator I am first and foremost an expert of Finnish language, and I have a minor in Finnish. I have been teaching Finnish from beginners to all the way to advanced Finnish speakers and native speaker. I have experience teaching different age groups: kids, teens and adult.
My lessons will be tailored to your wishes, goals, language level and interests. As a language learner myself I understand there are ups and downs in language learning, but I am ready to face these challenges with you. I am a calm person who likes to help others learn, so don't be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes. I believe that everyone can learn Finnish! :) Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I am a flexible teacher who can teach a structured course with a study book, but can also teach in any other way you want (talking about different topics, YKI prep, reading news articles or books, watching videos or an episode of a TV show and talking about them afterwards - you name it). I think it's important to use Finnish as much as possible in order to build a good understanding of the language and getting used to how it sounds. That's why I will speak only in Finnish to students who are on A2 level or above. I'll also use a lot of Finnish with A1 level students, just to get used to the sound.Mein Unterrichtsmaterial

I've now done a couple of Veera's Suomen kulttuurikurssi classes, and have enjoyed them immensely. Today we talked about Finnish folk poetry, and it was a good test of my listening comprehension. She always checks in to make sure I'm understanding correctly, which gives me an opportunity to rephrase what I've been hearing. She also is good at finding a way to use the new vocabulary we're discussing to ask questions about me and my interests, which gives me an opportunity to use that new vocabulary immediately. I highly recommend her.

Veera is such a wealth of knowledge for teaching my daughter. There are few teachers online that work with young children on Finnish, and Veera is clearly adept at her job.

Veera has been awesome with my 6 year old daughter so far. She wanted to learn Finnish because I am which helps massively with supporting her learning between lessons. But Veera really has a way of driving home new vocab and concepts for my daughter that have made each lesson impactful.
