Native Californian with 10 years of experience teaching English~ Hello students! Nice to meet you. My name is Cecily. I am a native English speaker living in the San Francisco Bay Area (United States). I have many interests, including going to concerts, writing, doing exercise, observing wildlife and walking in parks. I also enjoy lifelong learning -- I love to learn along with my students. My experience living abroad and studying foreign languages helps me empathize with my students' experience. I've been teaching English as a Foreign Language for 10 years, including two years in China. I have two certificates in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Prior to teaching English, I had many years' experience teaching music (my degree was in Music History). In China, I taught a year-long original course in American Culture. I have also studied clinical phonetics (relevant to pronunciation). My lessons are casual and fun. My teaching style is patient, supportive, thoughtful and enthusiastic. I am conscientious, and prepare lessons tailored to the student's needs. I use many varied materials for students at every level, including news articles, grammar resources, videos and some digital textbooks. If you are a new student to me, please try to book at least 24 hours in advance so I have time to communicate with you and prepare a new lesson for you before the lesson. Thank you. Cecily did a thorough evaluation of my foreign speaking pattern/style on our first lesson. She didn't waste any time and started targeting the problematic sounds I have with pronunciation. Then she'll help me with the other areas customizing our lessons with the goal of trying to achieve to speak more natural. She is friendly, easy going, and patient. So happy to have found Cecily!
