Hi! I'm Miriam. I am currently a Portuguese as a Foreign Language teacher and a volunteer English mentor for beginner-level students at the philanthropic institution SoulBilingue. In addition to my native language, Portuguese, I can also communicate in English and Spanish. I have experience teaching languages, especially English, with a focus on beginner students. I have taught basic English to elementary school students, adapting the content to different learning paces. I am a PhD candidate in Development and Environment, which enables me to integrate interdisciplinary content into my teaching, incorporating various topics and tailoring them to students’ goals. Let's learn Portuguese! I have experience in language teaching, mainly English, with a focus on beginner students. I taught basic English to elementary school students, adapting the content to different learning paces. I am also a volunteer mentor at Soulbilingue, where I help beginner students develop their language skills. My teaching approach is student-centered, always seeking interactive and contextual practices to facilitate learning. My lessons include conversation, reading, grammar, and plenty of learning. My first class with Miriam was wonderful. Aside from having very pleasant and warm energy she came prepared with materials based on my objectives that we discussed and laid out I plan for us going forward; in addition she was keen to my output and gave valuable feedback customized to what I was producing. I really enjoyed the lesson with Miriam. She was kind, engaged and clearly committed to helping me improve. I appreciated the way she challenged me in a constructive and encouraging way, because it pushed me to improvise and use my Portuguese more actively.
