Hi, I’m Torsten, a native German speaker with almost ten years of teaching experience and a First State Exam in teaching English and Political Science. I’ve also spent more than a decade in communication and editing, and my work as a writer and photographer has been published in print and online - experience that helps me explain complex ideas clearly and in a way that feels approachable. I’m passionate about music, films, photography, tech, finance, languages, and travel, and I enjoy bringing real-world topics into lessons when they help students connect with the language.
Ich als Lehrkraft
I’ve taught German from A1 to C2 in language schools, company courses, and 1:1 settings, and I’ve also worked as an English teacher - so I truly understand the challenges learners face at every level. I speak some Spanish, Russian, French, and Portuguese myself, which helps me empathize with students and explain grammar in a way that actually makes sense. My goal is to create a calm, friendly, motivating atmosphere where you feel safe to speak, make mistakes, and grow with confidence.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
My lessons are warm, clear, and supportive, focused on confidence, practical communication, and steady progress. We combine conversation with helpful explanations, examples, and real-life language so you learn naturally and with purpose. I offer grammar and pronunciation training, everyday and Business German, structured conversation practice, and exam preparation. Every student learns differently, so I create a personalized plan for your goals - whether you want to speak more freely, understand native speakers better, or build a strong foundation from scratch.
Torsten is a really interesting guy! He speaks clearly and seems to have an easy time adapting his language lessons to individual levels (for example, when we first met, I was processing a bit slowly and he soon adjusted his German to make the lesson more accessible. Now that I'm more comfortable chatting with him, he naturally raises the level of the conversation, which keeps things really engaging). The modality we use is mostly conversation practice, and he's naturally chatty, which makes the hour easy and candid. Highly recommend!
