Hi, my name is Menno, and I’m a certified math teacher from the Netherlands.
I enjoy traveling, hiking, being in nature, observing animals, reading science fiction, fantasy and literature novels, with interests in art, philosophy, technology, history. I have degrees in physics and math, but also studied at a recognized institute for the arts. I’m open minded, a broad thinker, friendly, patient, down-to-earth, and I enjoy helping students grow. I’d be happy to help you, and I warmly invite you to book a trial lesson so we can meet, discuss your needs, and see how I can support you in reaching your learning goals.
Ich als Lehrkraft
I have a PhD in applied mathematics and over twelve years of professional teaching experience. I taught engineering math and physics as a certified lecturer at a Dutch university of applied sciences for ten years. I also personally supervised hundreds of students during graduation projects and tutored many high-school students, working as a professional high school tutor and study coach. As a teacher I am very patient and encouraging, relaxed and informal. My goal is to help you move beyond textbook Dutch and start feeling comfortable using the language in real life.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
My lessons are informal and interactive, adapted to your personal level and needs. My teaching style is supportive and encouraging, and I am very patient and friendly by nature. In my lessons, we focus mainly on your conversational skills. Practice by example and by doing, and then we simply keep on practicing with diverse material, as practice makes perfect (repetition). Depending on your entry level, we’ll start with simple conversations—on daily life, the weather, hobbies—and gradually move toward more advanced topics. These can include discussing items from specialized Dutch learning sites/podcasts, or the topic can be tailored to your needs, such as practicing job interviews.
