Chinese with Ben

I sometimes wish I had contacted Ben earlier. I'm increasingly realizing how targeted learning for the HSK1-3 (and probably all further levels) differs from what is needed in real life. Ben makes each lesson so practical, lively and relaxed that you almost become addicted to more. There's nothing like having someone who understands their profession!

Bēnfàng, you stand out as a vibrant, extraordinary teacher who "makes learning fun," all the while covertly practicing expert pedagogy. You have the meticulously acquired skill of reading a student, using the words that person knows to build confidence, then adding new concepts with facial gestures, hand motions, and props. Lessons with you feel like mini-celebrations! And your explanation of yin and yang with HSK 1 vocabulary was simply masterful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise, and teaching gifts with us.

Best language teacher I've had thus far!!

I love Benfang's classes, they have been key to continue studying and stay motivated. I tend to forget easily the new vocabulary but, after his classes, I surprisingly remember a lot of new words. His method is amazing, the way he explains or introduces new words by relating them to others that I already know. Also using gestures and constantly encouraging me to speak. I just came back from my first trip to China and I feel very happy because I could meet new people, understand and speak much more that I thought! 谢谢 Benfang!

Ben is an incredibly diligent and thoughtful teacher. He customizes the lesson to topics that are relevant to the student. I already had a little over a year of training in Chinese before meeting Ben, so my main goal was to develop my speaking ability, which I felt to be my weakest area. Our first two classes were spent building a student/teacher relationship and developing vocabulary around the key topic I want to focus on in my early lessons: a career in music. He challenged me with lots of questions and new vocabulary, asking that I review the new vocabulary and use it in our conversations. Now that I am at my third lesson with him, he has started spending more time with me on pronunciation, as he noticed some recurrent weaknesses in the way I pronounce and enunciate full sentences. He provides study resources, encourages me to record the lessons, reviews homework, builds on previous knowledge, and is just an all-around nice guy. I highly recommend him!

So thankful to have completed my first lesson with Ben, who I’ve been following on YouTube for nearly a year. I recorded our lesson and will probably rewatch it 20 times. I wish I had reached out to him sooner; what a patient, diligent, and engaged teacher!
