I am originally from San Antonio, Texas in the US and have been living and teaching in Japan for over 10 years. I arrived here in 2011 and spent two years working in Niigata. After that, I moved to Tokyo to finish my Masters in TESOL at Temple University. I love teaching English!
Ich als Lehrkraft
I try to listen as well as speak during a lesson. Often an instructor will feel the need to jump in an answer a question they have asked before the student can work it out for themselves. As a second-language learner myself, I have an understanding of what a student needs from their teacher in terms of support as well as breathing space during practice.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I try to make my lessons more about using English in context rather than studying rules from a book and doing drills. I often say that students should use English rather than study it. There are so many resources out there for English learners to pick up and practice with. Also, I feel that culture and background knowledge is often neglected, which makes it really hard for a student to get a deep understanding of expressions and vocabulary. So that is more of a focus for me than I think most other teachers.
I learned the measure of EIKEN Grade Pre-1 in this time.Teacher educated me about grammar and vocabulary in detail. This class is very helpful as it enables me to realize what should I do in the future. I'd like to conquer a problem by the next session. Thank you very much for preparing the good class and I am looking forward to seeing you next time.
