Pinja

I was preparing for the highest level of the YKI test (C1) and Pinja guided me through this process beautifully. She is very friendly and encouraging and tries to boost your confidence at all times (sometimes I suspected she might be praising my performance a little too much but that might also by my imposter syndrome speaking :-D). She is very flexible and if you know what you want and where you want to go with your language learning journey, she will do her best to get you there with different exercises. We discussed all kinds of serious issues of our times such as politics and climate change (all in the target language Finnish, of course!) but we also laughed a lot, and I truly had an amazing time. Thank you, Pinja! Kiitoksia paljon!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with Pinja so far and will look forward to continuing our lessons moving forward. Pinja explains things clearly and also answers any questions I have, even if they are a little bit more advanced than where I am currently. I feel that there is also a lot of good encouragement and understanding. I can recommend :)

I had my second lesson with Pinja which I think went really well. Pinja was very responsive to questions about various aspects of grammar which I had spotted through recognising patterns, and was happy to discuss these even though it wasn't part of her original lesson plan. I feel like I'm making steady progress with Pinja explaining grammar and conjugations as we go along. I'm looking forward to the next lesson.

Pinja is so supportive! Thanks to our lessons and her supportive attitude, I have significantly improved my conversational skills in Finnish. The change is really noticeable - before I couldn’t say a word in Finnish even though I knew some grammar and vocabulary, but now I can already handle different types of conversations! And now it feels great and fun to learn Finnish as never before because I can engage more in longer conversations with native speakers. Thank you, Pinja!

I had my third lesson with Pinja and we learnt about type 1 verbs as well as the negative. Pinja was responsive, as always, to questions arising from just looking at the vocabulary and the way the conjugation is done. I feel that she really helps me discover the grammatical rule, and then reinforces it with an explanation to confirm, which is my preferred language style as a bit of a grammar geek. Looking forward to the next lesson!

I had my first Finnish lesson with Pinja today, and she was really good at starting off by chatting about my goals and my experience of learning languages, and tailoring the lesson according to my style of learning. We worked on conjugations (which I have an interest in from learning other languages with conjugations) which might not be what is usually taught as a first lesson. Looking forward to the next lesson.
