Hello! My name is Alex and I received my PhD in art history. As a student of history, I have had to learn to read and speak several languages like German (B2) and even Latin. I spent 2 years in Germany and my struggles learning to communicate in a new country have helped me to become a more thoughtful and empathetic teacher. I understand the struggle of learning a new language and becoming a confident speaker of English. As I have pursued my degree, I have also worked as an English language tutor and helped many students to begin speaking confidently and correctly. I hope that through conversation and lessons, I will be able to help you learn English and communicate with confidence!
Ich als Lehrkraft
As a tutor, I base my lessons around English language conversations. I often find that moving from reading and writing to speaking is difficult and intimidating for students and I try to provide a comfortable space for students to learn new vocabulary and themes through discussion and conversation. For additional practice, I can also assign homework or speak about specific topics you are interested so that each lesson is suitable to your needs. Lastly, as a teacher, I have found that it is always necessary to be flexible to the needs of my students and will try to find the best possible method to allow all students to improve.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
For my lessons, I usually seek to provide a space for students to talk as much as possible. Depending on the skill level of the student, I will shift from asking simple questions to more complex discussions that target specific themes the student is interested in. I have found that for beginning learners, introducing a few new words and using them in context is helpful for building vocabulary while, for more advanced students, discussions or articles are helpful as well. I always try to make my students feel comfortable talking and am flexible with the needs of individuals.
