Tycoon

Tycoon is truly an excellent teacher, mentor, and person: I'm Korean-American and have had many many teachers in the past. I have even studied Korean in Korea at Yonsei University. But Tycoon is quite exceptional. He's hard-working, precise, but offers suggestions and corrections with kindness, understanding, and compassion too. Every lesson is loaded with words, expressions, grammar points. Most of all, he listens and listens with care. For many years I had an ambivalent relationship to the Korean language but Tycoon, with his patience and precision, has encouraged me to build or rebuild a bridge to my heritage language. With Tycoon, I will get there eventually, one plank at a time.

My learning journey with Tycoon 선생님 has been nothing short of incredible. He is an exceptional teacher with a remarkable ability to adapt his teaching methods to the individual needs of his students. He is incredibly supportive and always encourages me, even when I mix Korean with English to express myself. His patience and positivity make every effort feel valued, no matter how small. I’m truly amazed at how much I’ve progressed since I first started learning Korean with him. I’ve gained so much confidence and now find myself thinking and writing directly in Korean, rather than translating from English. As a translator, I also rely on my linguistic instincts, which have been sharpened through this process. I’m certain that I’m advancing faster than ever before, and I owe this progress to Tycoon 선생님 for keeping me motivated and making every lesson engaging and enjoyable.

Tycoon was a great teacher. I was nervous for my first lesson but he was patient and helped me through it. We went through the lesson at a pace that I was comfortable with, he helped correct my pronunciation in a gentle way, and helped me build my confidence in speaking.

It’s already been a year of learning Korean with Tycoon. He's never late to class! Our lessons mainly focus on speaking practice. We chat casually, and he gently corrects me along the way. We review past lessons, practice making sentences, and explore idioms and expressions. Whenever grammar points pop up, we take the time to go over them too. My confidence in speaking is growing, and while grammar and speaking are still challenging, I’m slowly getting the hang of it. During a stopover in Seoul, I actually got to use what I’ve learned, from asking questions at a pharmacy, ordering street food to requesting a clothing size. I made plenty of mistakes, but it still felt like a huge win. I’m excited to keep learning with Tycoon and see how far I can go. Tycoon is a fantastic teacher! I've been taking lessons for 3 months and I feel myself improving after every lesson. He's patient during every class, encourages me to try even if I get it wrong, and always explains details clearly so I understand.

I finished a 10-lesson package with Tycoon today. I appreciate that he accepts my lesson requests on the same day as well, which makes it easier for me to fit in a Korean lesson whenever I get some free time. We've talked about many things from weather, flowers, language learning, Korean cultures, travelling, family to books. He never rushes things and gives me time to think, guides me to think for myself as much as possible, corrects my mistakes and teaches me new expressions. I usually get a lot of speaking time in his lessons, but also enough learnings to take home to improve. Thank you Tycoon!
