I'm Machiko, a qualified Japanese teacher with a Master's degree in Translation Studies.
For more than 10 years, I’ve enjoyed working in the field of education and linguistics with people from nearly 50 countries around the world. Language, culture, and intercultural communication are always subjects of my interest.
I'm also interested in lots of things from news, books, arts, music, DIY, technology, food, cooking, ...and so on.
Besides, I am a BIG fan of travelling and absolutely love to visit extreme places.
I'd definitely love to visit the places where you recommend someday!
I'm a qualified Japanese teacher completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language course, passing the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test, and earning a master's degree in Translation Studies at SOAS, University of London.
So far, I’ve been involved in several linguistic projects like translation, localisation and annotation for NLP. I specialise in the area of connotation, implication, and nuance of words and sentences.
I’ve been teaching Japanese to learners of various levels, first languages, and professional backgrounds.
It's given me the chance to meet amazing people from all around the world. I’ve also learnt a lot from them. I love it! : )
My teaching style is interactive, practical, and also respectful of multiple learning styles and cultures.

Incredible lesson once again! Machiko先生 is a great conversationalist, great teacher and overall patient, smart and kind person. I was worried to take lessons, since while I am approaching advanced level Japanese (post N2), I still have shortcomings in a quite a few N3-N5 skills because of my learning style. However, she creates lessons perfectly fit for my skills and shortcomings, something I could never find in regular classroom-settings.
Overall, she is great, I always leave our lessons happier and smarter!

Machiko always gives me time to find the correct answer before correcting my mistakes. We also discuss alterations to my text together, coming up with ideas as we chat. It really makes me feel like I'm improving my writing skills. Great lesson as always.
