Shirley / Phương

I have been learning from Shirley for about 9 months and nearly 100 lessons. I took a 3-month break, and after a few weeks of revision I had retained almost all of my Chinese knowledge. The lessons have been very pleasing and effective. Shirley is able to adjust the pace of the lesson to focus on areas of improvement when necessary. We often sidetrack into conversation, which allowed me to gain lots of exposure to listening and responding and apply new Chinese vocabulary and grammar. I felt no anxiety coming back from the break and felt myself progressing even faster than before.

After about 3 months of lessons, we reached the conclusion of the HSK2 course. I have been very satisfied learning with Shirley. She has been able to use my prior language background to explain concepts in an understandable way. Over the past few months I could feel noticeable improvement every lesson. I went from basic word recognition to understanding questions in conversation. I feel more comfortable articulating more complex thoughts and ideas using correct grammar and expression. It has been a very fulfilling language journey.

Was such a positive first experience outside of school learning a language! She was very positive and encouraging!

Trial lesson was a great introduction to Pinyin. I will definitely be booking more lessons with Shirley!

This is my third week with Shirley. We have built a good relationship. She has quickly understood my learning style and strengths and adapted our lesson pacing appropriately. She is careful to ensure that I progress through lessons with correct pronunciation. She is diligent in reviewing work and will record samples for students to practice with.
