How should we use the thesaurus tools effectively?

Based my experience, the meaning of a certain word you have learned at the first time always impress you in your writing or speaking.  However, there are many words can be used to express the same meaning. The one you know best always is not the best one in a certain scenario. So, I try to use thesaurus tools to find out the BEST one in my writing.

Use a thesaurus to remind you of words that you already know how to use well. A thesaurus can't teach you how to acquire new vocabulary. I recommend learning new vocabulary by reading and studying the use of words in context. Because synonyms are rarely exact, it is possible to make a simple but clear sentence impossible to understand by using a thesaurus. It sometimes happens!
