Depending on time, we may do a few interesting practice exercises with Listening, Reading or Speaking.

All levels, complete beginner to Advanced Plus.  Lessons will focus on your areas of interest, and include all core English skills of Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and correct use of grammar.  I will choose a variety of interesting and relevant materials, including news and current affairs items.  All lessons will include plenty of speaking practice and have a focus on fluency.

General English

This class has a flexible format, giving you a choice of interesting topics and activities to choose from.  It could include a variety of activities including topic discussion, news and current affairs, debates, role plays, question and answer practice and fun speaking games.  I'll give you useful feedback on your speaking level, and find ways to tackle any obstacles you may be facing including problems with grammar or pronunciation.  The aim is to expand your vocabulary and have you speaking confidently in any environment.

General Conversation and Fluency

Boost your skills with this special class tailored specifically to improving your listening comprehension and vocabulary. Using a range of audio materials including lectures, dialogues and conversations, podcasts and TED talks, I aim to get you to the next level so that you're comfortable in a range of settings, from day-to-day conversations through to university lectures.  For more advanced students this class includes Radio New Zealand interviews and broadcasts on interesting topics such as Society and Culture, Science and Climate Change.

Listening Skills Focus

Grow and improve your grammar for writing and speaking with this special grammar-focused class.  You'll be taken through structured worksheet exercises using the best quality grammar textbooks, with grammar appropriate to your English level.  We'll check to see if you have the basics right before moving to more complex grammar concepts, and you'll be challenged to construct and write your own sentences and short stories using grammar structures you've learnt.  

Whether you're at intermediate or advanced level, there's always scope to improve your grammar, so to get the most out of this class I encourage you to book a package of 5 or 10 classes.

Classes will include Powerpoint slides and worksheets in PDF form, and we'll consolidate your learning with homework that will be checked.

Grammar Focus

Supercharge your writing with this special class focused on techniques for structuring different kinds of writing from emails and informal letters through to essays and information texts.  We'll cover how to be clear about purpose and audience, and to organise your content in a logical manner.  We'll identify and correct any grammar errors you may be making, and you'll learn some new grammar structures that'll make your writing more powerful and persuasive.
Writing assignments will be set as homework outside lesson time, and then feedback will be given during the lesson.
