Descrizione
One grammatical form you have not met, and then everything you can do with it — which turns out to be all the good wishes in the language. The form is അട്ടെ (-atte). Attach it to a verb and the verb becomes a wish. ആകട്ടെ (aakatte) may it be, let it be വരട്ടെ (varatte) may it come സുഖമാകട്ടെ (sukhamaakatte) may you become well ജീവിക്കട്ടെ (jeevikkatte) may you live വിജയിക്കട്ടെ (vijayikkatte) may you succeed You have already met this ending twice without my naming it. വേഗം സുഖമാകട്ടെ — get well soon, literally may you become well quickly, from Class 42. And ഞാൻ ഇറങ്ങട്ടെ — shall I take my leave, the same ending as a request for permission. One ending, two jobs: a wish for somebody else, and permission for yourself. Both are the same idea. Let it be so. Grammarians call it an optative. English has one too, though it has almost disappeared — the word may. May you live long. May it be so. May the best team win. Every one is a blessing, a toast or a formula. English used may freely for centuries and has retired it into ceremony, which is exactly this episode's territory. THE OCCASIONS എല്ലാ ആശംസകളും (ellaa aashamsakalum) all good wishes — covers almost everything മംഗളങ്ങൾ (mangalangal) blessings — warmer, more traditional ജന്മദിനാശംസകൾ birthday · വിവാഹാശംസകൾ wedding · ഓണാശംസകൾ Onam · വിഷു ആശംസകൾ Vishu · ക്രിസ്മസ് ആശംസകൾ Christmas · പെരുന്നാൾ ആശംസകൾ feast day · പുതുവത്സരാശംസകൾ new year Quizzes below.
