Shipbuilding today is based on science and ships are built using computers and sophisticated tools. Shipbuilding in ancient Rome, however, was more of an art relying on estimation, inherited techniques and personal experience. The Romans were not traditionally sailors but mostly land- based people, who learned to build ships from the people that they conquered  namely the Greeks and the Egyptians.

There are a few surviving written documents that give descriptions and representations of ancient Roman ships, including the sails and rigging. Excavated vessels also provide some clues about ancient shipbuilding techniques. Studies of these have taught us that ancient Roman shipbuilders built the outer hull first, then proceeded with the frame and the rest of the ship. Planks used to bulld the outer hull were initially sewn together. Starting from the 6th century BCE, they were fixed using a method called mortise and tenon, whereby one plank locked into another without the need for stitching. Then in the first centuries of the current era, Mediterranean shipbuilders shifted to another shipbuilding method, still in use today, which consisted of building the frame first and then proceedlng with the hull and the other components of the ship. This method was more systematic and dramatically shortened ship construction t›mes. The ancient Romans built large merchant ships and warships whose size and technology  were unequalled  until the 16th century CE.

Next, proceed to read the passage thoroughly, keeping in mind the statements provided in the question. Pay close attention to the relevant sections that may contain information relating to the statements. Look for keywords or phrases that directly address or contradict the statements.

When evaluating each statement, consider whether there is clear evidence in the passage that supports its truthfulness. If you find explicit information that confirms the statement, mark it as "True." Conversely, if you encounter evidence that directly contradicts the statement, mark it as "False." Be cautious not to base your decision on assumptions or personal opinions. Stick to the information presented in the passage.

There may be instances where the information regarding a statement is not explicitly stated in the passage. In such cases, mark the statement as "Not Given." Remember, "Not Given" means there is insufficient information to confirm or deny the statement's truthfulness.

It's crucial to be aware of any qualifying words or phrases in the statements, such as "all," "only," "always," or "never." Pay close attention to these qualifiers, as they can significantly affect the accuracy of the statement.

Time management is key when answering T-F-NG questions. Allocate a specific amount of time for each question and avoid spending too much time on a single statement. If you're unsure about a statement, make an educated guess and move on. You can revisit it later if time allows.

はい、こんにちは。今回は、ポッドキャストのシーズン２の３回目です。今月の終わりから大学の授業が始まります。今日はレッスンがなかったので、下見に行きました。「下見」とは、行き方や場所の様子を調べるために実際に行くことです。

Hello. This is episode 3 of season 2 of my podcast. My university lessons start at the end of this month. I didn't have any lessons today, so I went for a Sitami. 'Shitami’ (Preview) means actually going to the location beforehand to find out how to get there and what the place looks like.

大学は京都にあるので、大阪から電車で１時間半ぐらいです。大学に行くまでに大阪駅と京都駅を通ります。大阪駅と京都駅はいつも人がいっぱいで、とても疲れます。今年の10月から日本に観光客が入れるようになったので、外国人もたくさんいました。京都にはヨーロッパ系の観光客が多いですが、最近は東南アジア系の観光客も増えている気がします。「〜系」は人種を表します。たとえば、国籍がブラジルで親が日本人の人を日系ブラジル人といいます。大学は駅からバスで10分ぐらいでした。山の近くにあってとても静かでした。

The university is located in Kyoto, which is about an hour and a half by train from Osaka. I pass through Osaka and Kyoto stations on my way to the university. Osaka and Kyoto stations are always full of people, and walking through them is always tiring. Since October this year, tourists have been allowed into Japan, so there were many foreigners. There are many European Kei tourists in Kyoto, but recently I feel that there are more and more South-East Asian Kei tourists. ‘-Kei (-descent)' denotes ethnicity. For example, people whose nationality is Brazilian and whose parents are Japanese are called Nikkei Brazilians. (The "ni" in nikkei is the first character of Japan). The university was about 10 minutes by bus from the station. It was very quiet near the mountains.
