The morning comes quickly because Lemon has slept like a rock. He wakes up remembering his dream: an effortless glide through golden gates guided by angles and eagles.

“Mum, dad, I need to talk to you,” says Lemon. “I’m leaving… I’m going to go find this paradise. I need to see it for myself. I want to feel the soil between my toes and taste the unknown insects.” 

His parents are quiet for a moment. They see in his eyes that this is very important, and they only want what is best for their child. 

His mother speaks first. “You are a sweet child, little Lemon. You have a wonderful mind, brave and curious. You know you’re always welcome here. Our nest is always open.” 

“Mum, of course I’m coming back! I love you two so much and this is my home.” 

Lemon’s father says, “It has been said that there comes a point in a bird’s life when he needs to go beyond the mountains… It happened to my father and my father’s father, but never for me. That time never came. I grew up during the worst winter in known history. I had to work and sacrifice—there was no time for adventures… so, go on, Lemon. Get out there and live your life!” 

“You are the best parents a bird could ever wish for!” 

And with those words, the family hugs, a long hug which, even though freezing winds rip past them, seems to warm them to their very bones.

このPodcastは、日本語を勉強しているみなさんに向けたPodcastです。

今日は、最近とても寒いので、鍋について。

日本はとても寒くなってきました。
北海道の僕が住んでいるところは最低気温が-8℃ぐらいまで下がるようになりました。関西でも最低気温は0℃近くまで下がっていますね。
みなさんの住んでいるところはどうでしょうか。

さて。
日本の冬といえば、いろいろありますが、食べ物が美味しいのも、日本の冬の特徴の一つかもしれません。日本の冬の食べ物といえば、みなさんは何を思い浮かべますか？

鍋とか、カニ、とかですかね。
人によると思いますが個人的にも冬といえば、鍋！という感じがします。

海外にも鍋文化はあると思いますが、日本の鍋はいろんな種類があるので、それをいくつか紹介しますね！

すき焼き
すき焼きは、牛肉や野菜などを鉄鍋で焼いたり煮たりして作ります。調味料は醤油・砂糖・酒・みりんをいれます。野菜はネギ・ハクサイ・シュンギク・シイタケ・焼き豆腐・コンニャク・シラタキなどを使います。卵をといて、からめて食べることが多いです。


しゃぶしゃぶ
しゃぶしゃぶは、日本の鍋料理の一つです。
薄く切った食材を鍋の熱湯やスープにくぐらせて、ポン酢とゴマダレにつけて食べます。食材は、鶏肉、豚肉、魚介、豆腐、油揚げ、ハクサイ、長葱、春菊、ミズナ、などの野菜類、シイタケ、シメジ、エノキなどのキノコ類、薄く切った大根、人参などの根菜類、春雨、葛きり、マロニーなどいろいろですね。
家庭によっていろいろ違うと思います。


水炊き
基本的にはお湯のみで煮る調理法の鍋です。　
九州では鶏肉を使うようです。
関西では鶏肉以外に豚肉や牛肉なども使います。
出汁昆布とともに文字通り水から煮て、ポン酢や醤油で食べます
残ったスープにちゃんぽん麺やうどんを入れたり、ご飯を入れておじや（雑炊）にする場合がある。九州風では麺が多く、関西風では飯を入れることが多い。


最後にもつ鍋です。
これは家で1番良くする鍋ですね。
もつは牛などの小腸や大腸のことですね。
海外の人は好みがあるみたいですね。
だし、唐辛子、ニンニクを使ったスープに、キャベツ、ニラ、もつ、豆腐などを入れます。〆に麺を入れることが多いです。


他にもたくさん鍋はあると思いますが、有名な鍋を紹介しました。
地域によって入っている食材が変われば鍋の名前が変わったりしますね。
これも日本の料理の特徴ですね。

The first class is the most important class because it sets the tone of everything. Teachers like me  receive messages every day about 10 month lesson plans. The thing is a teacher can give you an overview of how a class is conducted but without the first class, initial assessment of weaknesses and strengths can’t be made. As a result, we can’t make a proper lesson plan with an imaginary class. When you ask a teacher, “ Can you help me get this score?” Most would say yes but the teacher can only help you if you also do your part to show up. There are many students who ask for help but very few actually are willing to help themselves.
