こんにちは～！マルハバ！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です＾＾
みなさんー！お元気ですか？私は元気ですよ～！今日は「サマースクール」についてお話ししたいと思います。
2週間前から息子がサマースクールに通っています。サウジでは、6月中旬から8月中旬まで夏休みがあります。長いですね。大人たちは普通に仕事があるので、親が忙しい場合はデイケア・幼稚園児、小学生向けのサマースクールに通います。サマープログラムやサマーキャンプと呼ばれることがあります。キャンプといってもサウジの夏は暑すぎるので、室内で過ごします。多くのデイケアではサマースクールがあり、通常は同じデイケアに通います。息子は幼稚園に通っていないので、英語でお世話してくれるサマースクールを探していました。第35回でいとこの誕生日パーティーについて話しましたが、その放課後アクティビティを提供している施設でサマーキャンプが行われると聞いて、パーティーの時の印象も良かったので、そこに通わせることにしました。
そのサマースクールでは、4-12歳までが参加可能です。子供たちの国籍はわからないですが、アラブ人が多い印象です。でも、外国人のママをちらほら見かけたので、多分外国人やミックスの子もいると思います。スタッフは、アラブ人とフィリピン人で主に英語で話します。みなさんとてもフレンドリーで優しいです。期間は1日、1週間、1カ月から選べますが、私たちは1カ月を選びました。もちろん1カ月だと1日当たりの金額が安いです。
息子のサマースクールは朝10時に始まり、午後2時までです。11時頃に一つ目のアクティビティ、11:30にランチ、13時ごろ二つ目のアクティビティがあります。アクティビティはアート＆クラフト、音楽、ダンス、ヨガ、料理などです。1日2時間半以上はフリータイムで、プレイグラウンドで遊んだり、本を読んだり、自由に過ごせる時間が多いです。アクティビティが好きじゃない場合は、強制されません。
一日目は、夫と私と一緒に行きました。久しぶりの集団生活ということで、私たち夫婦は4時間その場所や万が一のために周辺のカフェで過ごす予定でした。案の定、息子は着いたとたんに泣き出し、「嫌だ、帰りたい」と言い出しました。その場を離れるのは難しそうだったので、「１人で遊ぶなら、ここにいるよ」という条件で、私たちは終わるまでずっとそこにいました。ちゃんと私たちなしでほとんど過ごせました。
二日目、私１人だけ最初の1時間、一日目と同じ条件でそこにいました。40分ほどで同じくらいの年齢のアラブ人の男の子と仲良くなり、私は11時頃に施設を出て、3時間近くのカフェで過ごすことができました。息子はその日、その男の子と友達になりました。
三日目は、その男の子が同じ時間に来たので、すぐにバイバイすることができました。私たち夫婦は、久しぶりにデートに行きました。
今日でほぼ2週間たちましたが、普段家ではしないアクティビティにチャレンジしたり、家族以外の人と過ごしたりして、毎日息子の成長を感じています。
6週間後に息子は小学1年生になります。子供の成長は本当に早い！数年後には親離れするかもしれない。毎日息子と遊んで過ごせる「今」を大切にしないといけないですね。
