1：动词，“一直到结束、到终点”的意思。
这个电影很复杂，只有看到底才能懂它讲了什么。
2：副词，用在疑问句或者带疑问代词的非疑问句中，表示“进一步探究”的意思。不能用于带“吗”的是非疑问句中。
我给他打了好几次电话了，可是一直没人接，也不知道他到底怎么回事。
3：用在疑问句或者带疑问代词的非疑问句中时，主语如果是疑问代词，“到底”只能放在主语前。
到底谁去参加比赛，大家还没决定。

有意思的例子：
1：她到底是不是我妈妈，为什么天天让我来上学😂
2：我到底为什么学习汉语😂
3：她天天问她老公：你爱不爱我？她老公每次都回答说：爱。他到底爱不爱他老婆😂

The story of Gerasim, a deaf and mute serf whose life of poverty is brought into sharp relief by his connection with Mumu, a dog he rescued, brought greater national attention to the cruelties of serfdom and received praise for its brutal portrayal of this institution in Russian society.

An action in progress can be expressed by adding the adverb “在”、“正” or “正在” before a verb or by using the modal particle “呢” at the end of a sentence. For example
wǒ zài shuì jiào 。  wǒ zài shuì jiào ne 。 
我在睡觉。=我在睡觉呢 。
tā zhènɡ liàn xí kǒu yǔ 。  tā zhènɡ liàn xí kǒu yǔ ne 。 
他正练习口语。=他正练习口语呢。
dà wèi zhènɡ zài chī fàn 。  dà wèi zhènɡ zài chī fàn ne 。 
大卫正在吃饭。=大卫正在吃饭呢。

The negative form is“没(在)+Verb/Verb Phrase”, without “呢”at the end of the sentence. For example:
wǒ méi zài kàn shū 。 
我没在看书。
