People today feel their lives are increasingly dominated by thier jobs. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? In today's fast-paced, ever-changing society, people find their jobs eating up their time more and more. I generally agree with the presented statement because today's economy never stop expanding or creating more work to be done although awareness of work-life balance has been encouraging change in stressful work environment. First, the amoung of work overall is increasing. Statistics say the global GDP has increased tenfold over the last 50 years, reaching $140 trillion. This enormous value generated means the advent of a vast amount work around. Today's complicated products and services require countless work to be done, innevitably forcing people to work long hours. In addition, more parts of life that used to be outside economic principles give way to business transactions, for example, babysitting and nurising care. This trend also increases the total work load in society. Second, specialization in modern workplace plays important role in people's perception of their time dominated by work. Separated duties prevent employees from having the whole picture, ending up in less morale for work. The feeling of being forced disengages people from work, and fuels antipathy to working. As a result, people feel their time is more dominated by their jobs. On the other hand, there is a silver lining. More and more companies have valued work-life balance, focusing on employees' well-being. Countries, including Japan, have already introduced rules that require corporations to make sure employees use their paid leave sufficiently and avoid working too long. These efforts will help reverse the trend and recover people's leisure time. In conclusion, although several counter measures are beginning to be taken, the nature of economic growth and formented employee disengagement are highly likely to lead to the feeling of no life outside work.
