I read a book review about “Plunder” which was written by Cynthia Saltzman. The book was about the paintings which were plundered by armies. For example, “the wedding feast” was Italian artwork and was drawn by Veronese. But Napoleon engineered the quarrel with Venice, he let the unauthorized french ship 🚢 navigate in Venice and then the Venetian army declared the war. After Venice surrendered, they promised to give France with 3m Francs, 5 paintings, more than 100 painting masterpieces and etc. This was totally a trick which played by Napoleon who was intended to take all the artworks from Italy systematically. And then they put “The Wedding Feast” on display in Louvre. After Napoleon defeat, the louvre’s boss returned half of paintings to Italy and “ the Wedding Feast” was not among them. Why? Because he said:” the masterpiece won’t survive in such a long journey”. At the end of the book, the author continued to introduce what happened about “ the wedding feast”. It hung up on the opposite to Mona Lisa in Loure and experienced thousands of concealments from Nazi. That’s all for today Thank you!
