The captain and his troop walked through the dangerous jungle trying to counteract the impeding enemy attacks. The jungle was a perfect place to remain hidden from their enemies. It also could be an hostil place for them though. While they were waiting their captain’s orders, some tended no to think about what lied ahead of them, because the fear was as paralyzing as not to being up for this mission.

The last sentence is a bit confusing.
TROOP (sing.) may be okay, but TROOPS is more common in this case. I think you mean IMPENDING, not IMPEDING. HOSTILE doesn't start with a vowel sound, so the article is A. WAITING FOR or AWAITING;. The past of LIE is LAY - - it's an irregular verb I believe. Nice job!
