if there’s an abbreviation I don’t know what it stands for, could I say: Coukd you UNPACK the abbreviation of the USA?

No, "unpack" doesn't really sound natural in that context. You've already touched on the most natural way to ask the question: What does it stand for? / Could you tell me what it stands for?
