“맛있어요” vs “멋있어요” — Just one letter makes a big difference! 😹
Body:
One of my students once proudly told me:
“Teacher! I went to a concert and shouted in Korean, ‘Oppa! It’s delicious!’ Then the idol looked right at me!” 😂
She actually wanted to say “You’re cool!” (멋있어요), but instead said “You’re delicious!” (맛있어요)!
No wonder the idol looked surprised! 😅
In Korean, one small vowel or consonant can completely change the meaning of a word.
