The reason for doing something explains why it is being done. The result is the conclusion or outcome or what happened.
So suppose I go to Japan on vacation. The reason I went is because I wanted to practice Japanese, the result of the trip is that I became a much better speaker of Japanese and made some new friends.
Does that help?
