Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious
social problems, as well as practical problems. To what extent do you agree or
disagree with this statement? COULD YOU PLEASE CORRECT ME IT IF I MAKE ANY
MISTAKES?
From the statement, a few positive outcomes can be addressed.
To begin with, one thing that makes life easier for immigrants is the universal
acceptance of English. This knowledge is more enough to survive in a foreign
country. Even in country like China, Japan or Russia where English is not spoken
widely, it is still possible to find people who can read, write and speak it
reasonably well. If we hear a new language regularly or all the time, our brain
will automatically pick it up. For this reason, learning a foreign language in a
foreign country is actually easier than learning it while we are still in our
country.
Apart from this, using their own languages in a foreign county could be
a bright side for a migrant. Many organizations and companies sometimes need
foreigners who speak their own language and it can lead to a successful career
for migrants. As I see it not knowing a foreign language makes no difference
because they can use their knowledge in the job fields in which they have experience. Similarly, by travelling, they can get a broader view of
other cultures and feel the beauty of multiculturalism; also, it can help to
acclimatise to a variety of work environments.
In addition, technology makes
everything easier. If someone doesn’t know the language of the country where
they live, they can still find restaurants by searching online and get simple
directions through Google maps. They can even order food online without having
to use another language at all. If they need to communicate with someone who
does not speak their language, they can simply use Google translate to convey a
message effectively.
