The responsibility of companies in preserving water resource With the technology improvement and industrializatio, our lives have been improved largely to the better. However, there are also some problems facing the society nowadays remain to be addressed. The protection of water resources is a pressing issue arousing attention from environmental organizations. Major companies are responsible for the water protection due to their huge water consumption. It is undeniable that there is a dramatic rise in water usage compared to the consumption in the past and a large portion of water resources has been consumed by major companies in clothing, drinks, food and technology industries. Tale technology giants such as Amazon and Apply as examples, they rely heavily on water for cooling the computers and their extensive data center. Regarding food industries, a significant amount of water is involved in manufacturing process and growing ingredients. As the vice president of Coca-Cola said, the water-intensive agricultural ingredients used for its products use vastly more water to produce than the actual manufacturing process. In light of this situation, the responsibility to safeguard water resources for the sustainability should rest with those corporations. There is an urgent need for those companies to improve their practices regarding water preservation. A nonprofit environmental group Ceres ranked seventy-two companies from four industries mentioned above based on their seize and water usage. Few of the business are close to achieving the 2030 goals set by the group. Those companies were assessed and tested based on several factors, including their contribution to improving access water and sanitation in local communities where they conduct business, and commitment to protecting the quality and quantity of the water they use and the environments that supply it as well. None of the businesses managed to score above 70% in the evaluation.
