Today, one of my colleagues gave me a big sweet potato that she has harvested in her garden. I’m very glad because sweet potato is one of my favorite food. I’d like to make some sweets with it, if I have a free time. Otherwise, I will slice it and bake them. That’s enough delicious.

Today, one of my colleagues gave me a big sweet potato that she had harvested from her garden. I’m very excited because sweet potatoes are one of my favorite foods. I’d like to make something sweet with it, if I have the free time. Otherwise, I will simply just slice it into pieces and then, bake them, as those by themselves will be delicious enough!
Hi, Mari. Good job! I used “she had harvested” because two things happened in the past (first, the harvesting, and second, the giving), and we differentiate that passage of time by using the past perfect tense. I used “very excited” because you are anticipating eating it. Just as you do, I, too, like sweet potatoes (or yams), so hopefully I will have some shortly during our Thanksgiving dinner later this month.

Good job! Your English is very clear. Let me know if you have any questions :)
